Welcome to the III International Forum on Patient Safety: Medication Errors.

The new paths of healthcare in the world: responsibility and safety in patient care.

After two successful editions in 2006 and 2009, the Institute of Safe Medication Practices (ISMP Brasil) will hold the III International Forum on Patient Safety: Medication Errors in 2010 in Ouro Preto, Minas Gerais state, Brazil. The main goal of this event is to promote safe practices in healthcare and medication use. It will be organized in a partnership with the Chancellor’s Office of the Ouro Preto Federal University (UFOP) and participation of the Pharmacy and Medical schools. Because of its relevance, this event will be part of the celebrations of the 171st anniversary of the Pharmacy School, UFOP.

About one thousand participants will meet in the historical city of Ouro Preto; there will be Brazilian and international speakers, specialists in patient safety with an emphasis on medication errors, physicians, pharmacists, nurses, undergraduates, healthcare managers, and representatives of the pharmaceutical industry, to debate and seek new forms of implementing safe practices in medication use.

Themes to be discussed are the integration of actions for safe practices in medication use, political and educational strategies on the safe use of medicines, their repercussions on professional practice in healthcare, ethical aspects and challenges, the interface between healthcare and law, and the accreditation of healthcare institutions.
